The project cost is £22 million. The works will commence on September 6th and conclude on September 25th. During this period, there may be disruptions to train and road traffic.

Network Rail reports that from September 6th to 9th and from September 20th to 23rd, traffic will be closed on sections of the M62 between J18 and J20 eastbound and J19 and J20 westbound from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM British Summer Time. Night closures will also be in effect from September 9th to 20th. Motorists are advised to avoid these areas or plan alternative routes in advance.

The railway bridge, known as the Castleton Bridge, was built in 1969 and is a vital part of the transport infrastructure, especially for transporting biomass to the Drax Power Station in Selby, North Yorkshire.

Network Rail emphasizes that the reconstruction of the bridge is “critically important” for the UK’s economy and energy supply.

During the works, the railway between Manchester (Victoria) and Rochdale will be closed, and buses will operate for passengers.

Network Rail is working with National Highways and Transport for Greater Manchester to minimize inconvenience.

As part of the project preparation, two 42-meter-long steel beams weighing 70 tons each were delivered to the site in July. These elements will be used in assembling the new bridge on-site.

The project aims to improve the transport infrastructure and enhance the reliability of the UK railway network.
