Condor Energies is building an LNG plant in Kazakhstan: a new era for gas-powered locomotives

The Canadian company Condor Energies is preparing to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production plant in Kazakhstan, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The plant will be located near the city of Aktobe and will be the first of its kind in the region. This project is being implemented in partnership with the American company Wabtec, which plans to convert Kazakhstan’s diesel locomotives to LNG.

Construction of the plant is expected to be completed within 12-16 months, with the initial production phase scheduled to launch in 2025.
The facility will produce up to 120,000 tons of liquefied gas annually, which will supply fuel to up to 125 locomotives.
Investment details for the project have not been disclosed. It is also noteworthy that Wabtec plans to establish the production of new diesel locomotives in Kazakhstan and modernize existing models for operation on LNG.
These steps are aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and improving the environmental situation in the region.
