COMSA Begins €41M Depot Construction Project for Renfe in Madrid
29.07.2025
COMSA signed a €41M contract to build a new Renfe depot in Madrid’s Fuencarral district, which will increase operational capacity and streamline infrastructure through modern, energy-efficient systems. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
COMSA to Expand Maintenance Capacity in Fuencarral
COMSA will construct a 240-meter-long and 45-meter-wide depot equipped with six tracks and a three-story office facility to support Renfe’s growing operations. This project aims to improve fleet maintenance capacity and workflow efficiency.

In addition to structural work, COMSA will modernize the depot’s infrastructure by upgrading the existing track network and installing advanced systems. These include traction power supply, industrial equipment power lines, communications, and fire safety networks.

The contractor will also handle plumbing, HVAC, and ventilation systems, ensuring the depot meets strict safety and environmental standards. This combination of upgrades will align Renfe’s operations with Spain’s broader push toward sustainable rail transport.
COMSA Also Builds Temporary Repair Facility and FGC Depot
To avoid disruptions during construction, COMSA will erect a temporary 220-meter-long and 15-meter-wide repair building. It will feature two Iberian-gauge tracks placed on metal viaducts, along with elevated platforms for maintenance access.
Engineers will install a rigid overhead conductor system inside the building to power the rolling stock during repairs. This setup will support uninterrupted service while the main depot takes shape.
Meanwhile, COMSA is also building a new depot in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda for Coradia Stream EMUs produced by Alstom. These units will operate on the FGC network, linking Barcelona with Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat International Airport.
With parallel depot projects for Renfe and FGC, COMSA reinforces its expertise in complex rail infrastructure. The company continues to lead in delivering efficient, future-ready facilities tailored to the evolving needs of Spain’s railway operators.
