ComfortJet trains will begin operating on the Prague–Berlin route in July 2025, providing faster travel, modern amenities, and a new standard for international rail connections across Central Europe. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Starting July 26, Czech Railways will deploy three nine-car and three eight-car ComfortJet trains daily between Prague and Berlin. Because the Berlin–Hamburg line is under reconstruction, Berlin will serve as the terminus for the next nine months.

The eight-car sets will leave Prague at 10:28, 16:28, and 20:28, reaching Berlin at 14:43, 20:43, and 00:57. Trains will return from Berlin at 07:15, 11:16, and 00:16, arriving in Prague at 11:27, 15:23, and 05:23.

Later, nine-car formations will join the service to increase capacity and improve passenger comfort. Each nine-car train measures about 237 meters and offers 555 seats, including 99 in first class and 18 in a dining car.

ČD plans to reassign older coaches to domestic services, such as the Prague–Luhačovice route, where second-class compartments will improve comfort. These steps align with ČD’s modernization strategy to upgrade both local and international services.

ComfortJet Expansion and Future Routes

Czech Railways expects ComfortJet to become the backbone of cross-border operations. In addition to Berlin, future routes will include Villach in Austria, Bratislava, and Budapest. By May 2026, a new line will link Prague, Berlin, and Copenhagen.

Under the contract, Siemens Mobility and Škoda Group will deliver 20 ComfortJet sets. The operator has already received seven nine-car and five eight-car trains. Modified Siemens Vectron locomotives will provide traction for these high-speed services.

With these changes, Czech Railways strengthens its position in European rail travel and offers passengers faster, more sustainable journeys across major international destinations.
