Coca-Cola bottling company to ship 2.5 million cans and bottles per day by rail
17.10.2022
Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP), Coca-Cola beverage bottling company, is switching from road to rail to deliver soft drinks to warehouses in London and Yorkshire. In partnership with Maritime Transport and GB RailFreight, a train will run daily, delivering around 2.5 million cans and bottles per trip. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to RailFreight.
Coca Cola soft drinks have so far been delivered by road, but the company wants to move to rail to reduce carbon emissions. The switch will save a total of almost 4 million road miles per year and reduce a total of 15,000 truck trips on some of the UK’s busiest roads. At full capacity, 31% of CCEP’s total output destined for Yorkshire will now be distributed by rail.

The rail service is Maritime first domestic intermodal service and will move heavily modified 34′ x 45′ containers by rail six days a week.
The new service is an extension of the existing partnership between Maritime and CCEP. Maritime has been providing distribution services to the bottling company since 2017. “As a business, we know that in order to reduce our overall carbon footprint, we need to work with our supply chain partners to continue to make significant strides towards our business goals,” commented Francisco Javier Sanchez Gandarias, Vice President of Customer Service and Supply Chain at CCEP.
