CN Infrastructure Investments Strengthen Illinois Network

In 2024, CN invested $234 million in Illinois to maintain tracks and modernize key infrastructure. These efforts set the foundation for this year’s $170 million expansion.

Projects last year included a $54 million siding extension in Greater Chicago that increased corridor capacity by 17%. CN also spent $15 million on new intermodal containers and vehicles across its network.

The company allocated an additional $10 million to upgrade intermodal operations in the Chicago area. These improvements enhanced efficiency and supported supply chain reliability for shippers in the Midwest.

CN Supports Local Growth Through Jobs and Spending

CN plays a major role in the Illinois economy, employing around 1,667 workers and operating 1,256 route miles. In 2024, local spending reached $1 billion, with $46 million paid in taxes.

Community investments totaled $361,000 last year, reflecting CN’s ongoing support of regional development. Leaders in Will County praised CN’s continued presence and commitment to long-term growth.
