CN Commits $600 Million to Ontario Rail in $3.4B Plan

CN will invest $600 million in Ontario in 2025 under its $3.4 billion capital plan to upgrade rail infrastructure, increase freight capacity, and strengthen safety across the provincial network. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Major Ontario Rail Projects Backed by CN
CN plans to replace 43 miles of rail and install approximately 123,000 new railroad ties. The work includes upgrading 84 road crossings with new surfaces to improve safety and minimize disruptions for road traffic.
Additionally, the company will refurbish bridges and culverts while modernizing signal systems. These actions will improve the long-term reliability and operational resilience of the entire provincial rail corridor.
CN Expands Key Terminals in Greater Toronto
In Milton, CN is investing over $49 million to build a new logistics hub. This terminal will handle more container traffic and ease pressure on existing intermodal facilities in the Toronto area.
At the MacMillan Yard in Vaughan, CN is spending more than $60 million to develop a fuel-loading terminal. This project will improve fueling logistics and reduce delays in daily operations at Canada’s largest rail yard.
CN’s total capital plan includes $2.9 billion in infrastructure upgrades across North America. This includes rolling stock modernization, capacity expansion, and investments in digital safety systems.
These measures align with CN’s broader commitment to sustainable growth and supply chain efficiency. The company also seeks to reduce its environmental impact through upgraded equipment and cleaner operations.
