A CN coal train derailment near Lytton was reported Saturday morning. Canadian National Railway said six cars came off the tracks. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The incident occurred on a stretch of railway along the Thompson River. It was between the community and Big Horn. Meanwhile, Ashley Michnowski, CN’s senior manager of media relations, said crews are on site. As reported by CBC News, crews are responding to the incident.
Michnowski said there were no injuries. She also said there were no fires, leaks, spills or dangerous goods involved. In addition, she said there is no risk to the public. An investigation into the cause of the derailment is underway.

Separately, area electoral director Tricia Thorpe said the derailment “could have been far worse.”
“There are cars off the track, mostly upright and it looks like it was a large rock that came down off the mountainside.”
Thorpe said the incident can be seen from Highway 1.
