Civity Nordic: First Train Arrives in Sweden for Testing
03.04.2025
CAF delivered the first Civity Nordic train to Sweden for testing. The unit arrived from Beasain, Spain, to the Nesjö depot. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Before its 2026 launch, the train will undergo 20,000 kilometers of testing. Experts will evaluate its performance on Sweden’s national railway network.

The train’s modification suits Scandinavian conditions, and it handles temperatures from –40 to +40 °C. CAF promises speeds of 200 km/h on electric power and 140 km/h on biodiesel.
Currently, another unit undergoes testing at the VUZ test ring in the Czech Republic. A different train faces checks in a Vienna climate chamber for reliability.
In 2021, CAF signed a contract for 20 electric trains and 8 hybrid units. AB Transitio ordered them for $270 million to serve four Swedish regions.
Electric trains lead the delivery queue because regions demand them urgently. Hybrid units with electric and biodiesel traction will arrive later.
Testing in Nesjö starts soon, and experts will assess the train’s climate adaptation. CAF actively meets all contract demands for its clients.
Civity Nordic: Innovation for Passengers
The trains will offer comfort and reliability for passengers in tough weather conditions. Their rollout will enhance Sweden’s transport system, experts say.
Czech and Vienna tests will confirm the units’ resilience to temperature swings and stress. Afterward, preparations for the 2026 launch will begin.
Four Swedish regions will gain modern trains meeting eco-friendly standards. Biodiesel use in hybrid units will cut carbon emissions, buyers believe.
AB Transitio manages deliveries and ensures the contract stays on schedule. Initial Nesjö test results will emerge later this year.
Civity Nordic: Future of Swedish Railways
CAF keeps producing the remaining trains in Beasain for timely delivery. Swedish regions eagerly await the railway fleet upgrade.
Electric trains will anchor the transport system in four regions because they’re efficient. Hybrid units will add flexibility and support the network.
Testing across conditions ensures the trains handle any challenge thrown their way. This boosts CAF’s reputation as a trusted rolling stock supplier.
The 2026 launch will mark a key step for Swedish railways. Passengers will enjoy fast, green transport for daily trips.
