Czech Republic assesses route options and service types
Engineers are analyzing nine route options to determine the most efficient alignment. They are also evaluating whether to allow both freight and passenger traffic, as on the Litoměřice–Dresden section, or limit service to passengers only.
Target speeds of 200, 250, and 320 km/h are also under review. These parameters will directly affect construction costs and timelines.
Czech Republic includes local feedback and upgrades infrastructure
The project also involves upgrades to existing regional railways, such as the Louny–Žatec line, which would help integrate local networks with the new route.
According to Správa železnic, local communities will play a key role in the planning phase. Officials said their feedback will be incorporated into early design decisions.
Although the total investment has not been confirmed, it is expected to reach several hundred million euros. The Czech Republic sees high-speed rail as part of its long-term vision for sustainable transport and integration into the European HSR network.
The feasibility study is set for completion by 2027, after which detailed design and construction phases will begin.
