Private companies can provide about 50 diesel locomotives for transportation
22.10.2021
Almost 50 diesel locomotives for transportation on the rail tracks of Ukrzaliznytsia can be provided by private companies.
This was announced during the conference within the framework of the Rail Expo railway exhibition, which was launched in Kyiv, by Andrey Miroshnikov, Director for Development and Tariff Policy of LLC Ukrainian Locomotive Building Company.
In his opinion, this could be a good support for Ukrzaliznytsia, which “cannot cope with the export of goods,” reports Railway Supply.
The use of private locomotives, according to Andrei Miroshnikov, would reduce penalties for non-compliance with transportation agreements.
In addition, private companies could provide the necessary investments. Andrei Miroshnikov noted that the topic of access to private traction on the tracks of UZ is already more than 10 years old, but “things are still there”. He also called for the extension of the pilot project to attract private diesel locomotives.
According to the specialist, the main reasons for the delay in the traction liberalization process are the tariff policy and the ban on the use of private locomotives on the lines of passenger traffic.
