Canada Invests in VIA Rail: Purchase of 40 Locomotives and 300 Passenger Cars After 2030

The Government of Canada will allocate funds for the acquisition of 40 locomotives and 300 passenger cars for VIA Rail, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez announced this.

Immediately following this, VIA Rail intends to launch a request for proposals from suppliers.
The delivery of the new rolling stock is expected to begin after 2030.
Currently, the carrier’s main fleet consists of models produced between 1947 and 1955.
Thus, updating the rolling stock is a significant step in modernizing VIA Rail’s infrastructure.
The new equipment will improve service quality and enhance passenger comfort.
The introduction of modern locomotives and cars is expected to promote more efficient and safer railway operations.
