CAF resumes production of narrow-gauge trains
20.02.2024
CAF is resuming production of narrow-gauge trains for the Spanish carrier Renfe after redesigning, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Oscar Puente, Spain’s Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, announced the assembly of the first 10 trains at the factory in Guipuzcoa on February 26.
Laude is considering bringing containers into Ukraine with its own locomotives
They are planned to be put into operation in 2026, two years later than planned.
In 2020, Renfe ordered 31 trains from CAF for €258 million, with an option for an additional 25 units.
However, in early 2023, the contract execution was suspended due to an error in the technical specifications: the train dimensions did not match the tunnel sizes.
This led to resignations both at Renfe and at the infrastructure operator Adif.
According to El Espanol, the error was related to a misunderstanding of the network declaration prepared by Adif.
The rolling stock was reworked using the “comparative method,” using existing trains as models.
