Spanish firm CAF has clinched a deal with Syndicat des Mobilités de Touraine. The company will supply 19 low-floor trams to Tours, France.

This contract targets Line 2 tramway, and CAF will connect La Riche to Chambray-lès-Tours. The new route enhances regional transport in Centre-Val de Loire effectively.

Manufacturers will build these trams at a facility in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, France. The site, near Spain, ensures local production with deliveries starting in 2027.

Shipments of trams will roll out in 2027, aiming for completion by 2028. This timeline aligns with Line 2’s commercial launch, boosting Tours’ infrastructure.

Each tram, measuring 42 meters, uses the advanced Urbos platform for efficiency. These vehicles accommodate 280 passengers, including 76 seated, for maximum comfort.

Designers have added spaces for bicycles, strollers, and wheelchairs in every tram. Traction batteries power the trams through historic districts without overhead lines.

Line 1, running since August 2013, relies on Alstom’s Citadis trams currently. It spans 14.8 kilometers, serves 29 stops, and carried 18.2 million passengers.

Meanwhile, Line 2 stretches 12.5 kilometers and features 22 stops across Tours. Experts forecast it will transport 35,000 passengers daily once operational.

CAF Strengthens France’s Urban Mobility

This project improves connectivity in Tours with sustainable transport solutions quickly. It reflects growing demand for eco-friendly urban transit in French cities.

In 2022, the company won contracts to supply Urbos trams to Montpellier. It also secured a deal with Marseille, expanding its reach in France.

Tours’ new trams blend modern design with green features, officials confirm. Battery power ensures smooth rides in areas without traditional electric lines.

This deal highlights the company’s dedication to advancing transit across Europe. It also cements its status as a leader in rail innovation.

The Syndicat des Mobilités de Touraine manages transport growth in the region. Partnering with the firm, it meets rising passenger demands with modern trams.

By 2028, Tours expects Line 2 to transform local travel significantly. The city predicts less traffic and a cleaner environment as benefits.
