CAF Expands Its Presence in Asia via Taiwan
New Taipei, a city adjacent to the capital Taipei and home to about 4 million residents, is actively expanding its urban transport system. Local authorities commissioned Gamuda Berhad to build the first phase of the Xidong line.
This phase features a 6-kilometer elevated section with six stations and a depot, scheduled for completion within seven years. The second Keelung line, 19.1 kilometers long with 13 stations, was approved in 2022.
CAF Trams Adapted for Taiwan’s Climate and Accessibility
CAF will supply nine-section trams, 55 meters long, with aluminum car bodies and a capacity of up to 615 passengers. The design ensures full accessibility and comfort for passengers with reduced mobility.
The vehicles are engineered to perform reliably in Taiwan’s humid, subtropical climate, meeting the operational needs of a modern urban system.
The company previously entered the Taiwanese market in 2015 by delivering nine battery-powered Urbos trams to the port city of Kaohsiung.
This new agreement reinforces CAF’s position in the Asian market and demonstrates its ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable urban transport development in Taiwan.
