The Spanish company CAF has confirmed the signing of a contract to supply new electric trains to Morocco. The total value of the base agreement is approximately €600 million, excluding options. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract covers the delivery of 30 trains, with an option to supply 10 additional units. Funding will be provided by the state-owned FIEM fund, which supports infrastructure projects.
Morocco to Upgrade Railway Fleet with New Trains from CAF
The electric trains, with a capacity of over 500 passengers, will be able to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. They are planned to operate on routes between Fes and Marrakech, as well as Kenitra and Fes.

The first batch will be delivered to Morocco’s national railway operator ONCF in the coming years. The delivery process will be divided into several stages to meet all technical and logistical requirements.
CAF highlights that the choice of their rolling stock confirms the company’s successful track record in the region. Previously, CAF supplied trains for Morocco’s railway network, receiving positive feedback.
New Trains for Morocco to Enhance Passenger Service Quality
The trains will be adapted to Morocco’s climate and tailored to the requirements of the national operator. Special attention will be given to energy efficiency to ensure reliable performance on existing routes over the long term.
In addition, the trains will be equipped with modern safety systems already tested in other countries. These technologies will enhance passenger protection and reduce operational risks.
The contract also includes comprehensive maintenance services throughout the warranty period. CAF will provide original spare parts and carry out all necessary scheduled maintenance.
Morocco Continues Railway Modernization Amid Rising Passenger Demand
The delivery of new trains will improve comfort on popular routes and shorten travel times. Modern trains will help reduce the load on the road network, contributing to environmental improvements.
More comfortable travel conditions are expected to attract additional passengers to key rail routes.
Thus, the contract with CAF will become an important part of Morocco’s large-scale transport development program. The introduction of next-generation trains aligns with the country’s transport modernization strategy.
