CAF SNCB train contract: AM30 fleet deal worth €1.7bn

CAF SNCB train contract details have been confirmed after CAF was selected by SNCB (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Belges) to design, manufacture and supply a new AM30 train fleet, as outlined in a CAF press release.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Valued at €1.7 billion, the framework agreement initially covers 180 trains and provides capacity for 54,000 passengers. It also includes an option for up to 380 additional units, which would increase capacity by a further 170,000 passengers, as reported by Railway-News.

SNCB, Belgium’s national railway operator, runs InterCity, Regional and Suburban services that link major cities and regions across the country. The company employs over 17,000 staff, operates across 3,700 kilometres of track, and transports around 250 million passengers annually.

CAF Benelux presence and previous contracts
Across the Benelux region, CAF points to earlier deliveries that include metro units for Brussels, metro and tram units for Amsterdam, and trams for Luxembourg, Utrecht, the Belgian Coast Line, Antwerp and Liège.
The supplier has also delivered more than 200 commuter trains to Dutch operator NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen), including 60 double-deck units, and provided 10 additional trains for QBuzz, as previously covered by Railway Supply.
