CAF maintenance contract in Brazil: scope and value

This long-term services contract is one of the largest CAF has secured to date and further strengthens the company’s position in the Brazilian rail market. The fleet covered by the agreement consists predominantly of trains originally manufactured by CAF, so the company is now moving from the role of supplier to that of long-term maintainer of the same rolling stock, a step also underlined in CAF’s official announcement published via Publicnow / MarketScreener.

LeadMind digital platform and fleet optimisation

A central element of the EUR 500 million long-term services contract is the deployment of the CAF LeadMind digital platform on the 107 electric multiple units. LeadMind enables real-time monitoring of critical operating parameters and supports both predictive and condition-based maintenance strategies. By leveraging the data generated by the system, operators can optimise maintenance planning, increase the availability of rolling stock and reduce lifecycle costs over the 24-year term of the agreement.

São Paulo commuter rail lines 11–Coral, 12–Safira and 13–Jade

The maintenance of 107 electric multiple units directly supports one of Brazil’s busiest commuter networks. Lines 11–Coral, 12–Safira and 13–Jade together extend over more than 100 km of track and carry around 800,000 passengers per day. They connect key cities in the São Paulo metropolitan region, including Guarulhos, Mogi das Cruzes, Poá, Suzano, Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Itaquaquecetuba. CAF’s maintenance programme is expected to be crucial for maintaining reliability, safety and service performance for millions of users over the coming decades.

CAF as the largest maintainer of passenger rolling stock in Brazil

The São Paulo award marks an important milestone for CAF, reinforcing its position as the largest maintainer of passenger rolling stock in Brazil. The company has been active in the country since 1998, supplying rolling stock and maintenance services to operators such as CPTM, Metrô de São Paulo, CBTU in Recife and Belo Horizonte, and TRENSURB in Porto Alegre. Taken together, CAF’s Brazilian portfolio now represents nearly EUR 3 billion in projects, reflecting a strong and sustained presence in the national rail sector.

CAF rail services contracts worldwide

The new CAF maintenance contract in Brazil also underscores the strong performance of the company’s global services division. This business unit manages more than 150 contracts in 20 countries, providing maintenance for nearly 12,000 vehicles and employing a workforce of over 4,000 people. Earlier global rail maintenance deals in Brazil and New Zealand, highlighted by Railway Supply, further illustrate how CAF is expanding its service portfolio.

Recent CAF rail services contracts include maintenance agreements with Northern in the United Kingdom, general overhauls for fleets in Trieste and Sardinia in Italy, and additional work across Latin America with Metro Quito, Metro Medellín and other Brazilian operators. CAF has also secured service agreements for the Houston tramway and for the commuter rail fleet in Auckland, extending its service footprint well beyond Brazil.
