Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura awarded three contracts to upgrade the Roca and Sarmiento lines. These upgrades target platform repairs, structural reinforcements, and station roofing projects across the network.

Modernization Projects Strengthen Rail Safety in Buenos Aires

In Buenos Aires, Morón station will receive a full platform reconstruction due to safety concerns. OCSA won the $18.6 million contract to replace the worn-out surfaces and reduce the platform-to-train gap.

Plaza Constitución station, a major terminal in Buenos Aires, will see roof enhancements. Centro Construcciones secured the $21.8 million project to restore and finish roofing over platforms 5 to 8.

At Kosteki & Santillán station, platform 4 will be re-levelled and retaining walls reinforced. Drayco offered the winning bid of $801,000 for these urgently needed improvements.

These projects address serious operational risks on the Buenos Aires commuter rail system. They also aim to improve comfort and reduce service disruptions across critical transit hubs.

Buenos Aires Rail Lines Undergo Major Emergency Renewal

The Roca Line carried 10.3 million passengers in October 2024, running 907 daily services. In the same period, the Sarmiento Line served 6.7 million passengers, linking central and western districts.

The Sarmiento Line connects Once station with areas like Morón and Moreno. Known for heavy traffic, it has long required infrastructure renewal to improve reliability.

Meanwhile, the Roca Line extends from Constitución to La Plata and southern suburbs. Recent electrification has enhanced its capacity and speed, but structural repairs remain essential.

Argentina’s Emergency Railway Plan targets failing infrastructure with fast-tracked contracts. It includes upgrades to platforms, stations, trackbeds, and bridges across national and metro systems.

Buenos Aires plays a key role in this initiative, given its high commuter volumes. The plan reflects a broader push to modernize outdated rail assets and restore public trust in daily train travel.
