Bozankaya purchases Polish traction systems for trams and metro

Bozankaya signed a contract with Polish company Medcom to supply silicon carbide (SiC)-based traction systems for trams heading to Europe and metro trains for Istanbul. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The deal includes components for 73 trams and 100 metro cars. These vehicles are intended for Serbia, Romania, Turkey, and Italy, with deliveries already underway in Belgrade and Iași.

The contract covers 25 five-section trams for Belgrade, 18 three-section trams for Iași, 10 seven-section units for Samsun, and up to 20 five-section vehicles for Naples. All will be equipped with new Polish power modules.
Previously, Medcom had supplied Bozankaya with components for trams manufactured for Kayseri and Antalya. This partnership experience helped strengthen trust between the companies.
Bozankaya strengthens cooperation with Medcom
This new delivery marks an important step in Bozankaya’s international expansion. The use of SiC technology will improve the trams’ operational efficiency.
The company focuses on integrating modern solutions to reduce energy consumption and increase system reliability. These benefits are especially relevant to emerging markets in Eastern and Southern Europe.
Bozankaya signs agreement with Turkish firm Aselsan
Additionally, Bozankaya signed a deal with Aselsan to develop and produce traction systems domestically. These will become the first locally manufactured components of their kind.
This move supports the national industry and reduces dependence on imports. Bozankaya aims to balance international partnerships with local capabilities.
