BMRCL Yellow Line operations get a boost with sixth train
23.12.2025
BMRCL Yellow Line operations will get a capacity lift from December 23, 2025, with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited adding a sixth train to the corridor to help ease congestion for daily commuters, as Deccan Herald reports.

The Sixth train induction on Yellow Line brings a change to weekday peak service: headways will shift from 15 minutes to 13 minutes from Monday to Saturday.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Sunday operations, however, stay at 15-minute intervals. BMRCL also said the first and last departures from both terminals—R.V. Road and Bommasandra—are unchanged.

Yellow Line RV Road–Bommasandra corridor: service change in context
This adjustment sits within the RV Road–Bommasandra corridor, a central element of the Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project. The Yellow Line runs 19.75 km between RV Road (Ragigudda) and Bommasandra, serving 16 stations. Built at a cost of Rs. 7,160 crore, it is intended to connect southern Bangalore with Electronic City, a major employment hub—an overview previously noted by Railway Supply.
On the technical side, the corridor uses Standard gauge metro line infrastructure with 750V DC third rail traction. It is designed for a maximum speed of 80 kmph and uses ATP and ATO systems, with services operated by 6-car trainsets. BMRCL has described the Yellow Line as India’s first metro line commissioned with 750V DC third rail traction on standard gauge.
With the Yellow Line in service, BMRCL says the metro network now extends beyond 96 km, supporting quicker trips between residential, commercial, and industrial areas and contributing to lower carbon emissions.
Pink Line inspection and Phase-2 momentum
While the Yellow Line remains the immediate focus, Phase-2 work continues elsewhere. BMRCL has carried out a Pink Line inspection, with Dr. J. Ravishankar, IAS, Managing Director, BMRCL, joined by directors and senior officials to review progress on the upcoming corridor.
In parallel, The Economic Times reported that BEML Limited has rolled out the prototype of its Driverless Metro Trainset (5RS-DM). These trainsets are being developed for Phase-2 corridors 2A and 2B, which include the Pink Line and the Blue Line (Airport Line), two routes central to Bangalore’s planned metro expansion.
Overall, the added train is positioned as a practical step to improve Yellow Line RV Road Bommasandra frequency during the busiest hours, while Phase-2 work continues across other key corridors.
