CANADA: Metrolinx has completed Bloor GO/UP Station upgrades in Toronto, opening the first direct station access for residents east of the tracks and adding 2.5 kilometres of Kitchener Line track.

New Randolph Avenue access changes station connections

Metrolinx announced the completion on July 31, 2026, after work added a covered pedestrian pavilion and a tunnel connecting the station with Randolph Avenue. The new entrance gives nearby residents on the east side of the rail corridor a direct route into the station for the first time.

The project also changed the surrounding public space. Crews realigned and enhanced the West Toronto Railpath to accommodate the additional railway infrastructure, adding gardens, seating and a community park at Ernest Avenue.

Together, the station entrance, tunnel and Railpath work improve access on foot and by bicycle while retaining the corridor’s role as both a transport route and neighbourhood connection.

New track prepares the Kitchener Line for more service

The completed package includes 2.5 kilometres of new track between Lansdowne Avenue and Dupont Street. This additional infrastructure is intended to increase capacity and prepare the Kitchener Line for more frequent service.

The Bloor project is one part of a wider, multi-phase programme to convert the Kitchener Line into a two-way, all-day rapid transit corridor. That broader effort still requires new track, bridge upgrades and station modernization along the route.

On its Kitchener Line corridor work page, Metrolinx says planned electrification on sections of the line is intended to support faster trains and two-way, all-day trips as often as every 15 minutes. The July 31 completion therefore marks a finished local package within a larger programme that remains underway.
