BLET Members Approve New Contract for Metra Engineers
12.10.2025
The BLET has approved a new collective bargaining agreement for Union Pacific line employees that are members, a major milestone for the commuter rail employees of Chicago and long-term future stability.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
BLET Approves Deal with Pay and Security Advancement
The deal offers a 3.5% wage increase that will be in effect within two pay periods and back payments starting July 1, 2025. Since the package also encompasses job security and defined terms of work, union officials characterize the package as a balanced deal betweenpay for the workers and continuity of works.
Overwhelming 60–1 vote demonstrates member fervor in support of the agreement. “This agreement is a testament to the hard work of engineers getting Chicago’s rail network moving safely and efficiently,” a BLET spokesman stated.
BLET Reinforces Cooperation with Metra
Metra runs three Union Pacific lines—North, Northwest, and West—and finished the bulk of its operational switchover from Union Pacific this year. But a few legal and regulatory matters are still up for consideration.
This new agreement solidifies cooperation between BLET and Metra, allowing for consistent service to the thousands that ride daily. The agreement keeps engineers in line to receive a just wage as Metra increases efficiency and reliability in service.
Industry watchers report that the agreement is in both labor stability and commuter confidence. And since post-pandemic ridership recovery is based on steady output, labor peace is crucial to future potential.
Metra officials stress that constant collaboration with the union is needed. The group works to increase safety, timeliness, and openness with a healthy connection with its employees. Cooperation is a shared value that stems from a common sense of public purpose and a belief in community development.
The new deal not just lifts morale but also reinforced the bedrock of belief between managers and staff. Both parties now aim to provide efficient, passenger-safe, and passenger-centered service throughout the Chicago area.
