Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprises actively shapes the coach specifications for efficiency. Stainless steel bodies, 21.7-meter lengths, and a 95 kmph speed define these trains.

Each six-coach train accommodates 1,052 passengers, balancing seating and standing room effectively. Lighting, ventilation, and accessibility features ensure travelers enjoy a comfortable, modern journey.

Bengaluru Suburban Rail Gains Momentum with K-RIDE

The joint venture, K-RIDE, oversees the suburban rail project with clear goals. They target 51 trains by 2028, and ICF plans to deliver four by 2026.

Officials schedule Corridor C2 operations for December 2026, prioritizing key Bengaluru routes. Meanwhile, Corridor 4 starts earlier in 2025, boosting connectivity across the city.

K-RIDE opts to buy coaches from ICF, skipping competitive bidding this time. The Karnataka cabinet approved funding, so the project avoids delays from tenders.

The rolling stock costs $516 million, and both governments contribute equally. Karnataka and the Union each provide $258 million for 306 coaches total.

Bengaluru Suburban Rail Targets Traffic Relief

Initially, K-RIDE explored leasing 50 trains, but industry response fell short. Now, direct purchases replace the PPP model, ensuring steady project advancement continues.

The Centre’s 2020 leasing idea aimed to cut costs, yet firms hesitated. High investments deterred companies, so K-RIDE adapted its strategy for success quickly.

The Railway Board confirms funding after NITI Aayog’s review of plans. This approval keeps the Bengaluru rail network on track for completion soon.

Progress in coach procurement brings Bengaluru suburban rail closer to efficient service. The system targets traffic congestion, and it fills public transport gaps effectively.

With modern coaches and solid funding, the rail network promises relief. Bengaluru residents anticipate smoother travel, and the city prepares for growth ahead.
