Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike: New Ticket Prices and Discount Details
09.02.2025
Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike Implemented with New Tariff System. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Bengaluru Metro fares have increased by 50%, affecting daily commuters starting this Sunday. BMRCL announced the revised pricing system, including peak and non-peak hour rates for metro travelers.
Bengaluru Metro Introduces New Fare Structure
Commuters will now pay different fares depending on peak and non-peak hours, similar to Ola and Uber. The maximum fare has increased from ₹60 to ₹90, while the minimum balance requirement is now ₹90.
Updated Bengaluru Metro Ticket Prices
For short trips, the fare starts at ₹10 for 0–2 km and ₹20 for 2–4 km. Traveling 4–6 km will now cost ₹30, while a journey of 6–8 km is ₹40. Longer trips are charged as follows: ₹50 for 8–10 km, ₹60 for 10–12 km, and ₹70 for 15–20 km. The fare for 20–25 km is ₹80, and rides beyond 25 km cost ₹90.

According to BMRCL, the Fare Fixation Committee submitted the revised pricing recommendations on December 16, 2024. Under Section 37 of the Metro Railway O&M Act, these recommendations are mandatory for implementation.
Following board approval, the updated fare structure takes effect on February 9, 2025. Smart card users can benefit from additional discounts based on their travel times.
Smart Card Discounts and Peak-Hour Savings
BMRCL confirmed a 5% discount for smart card users traveling during peak hours. During off-peak hours, an extra 5% discount applies, bringing total savings to 10%.
Non-peak hours include metro service times before 8 a.m., between noon and 4 p.m., and after 9 p.m. on weekdays. A special 10% discount applies on all Sundays and national holidays.
This fare adjustment follows a recent 15% increase in Karnataka government bus fares, impacting Bengaluru commuters. Public transport users now face higher expenses across multiple travel modes.
Government Response to Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike
Last month, Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan shared an update on ‘X’ about the proposed metro fare increase. He announced that the central government postponed BMRCL’s planned 45% hike, originally scheduled for February 1.
He stated that the Modi government required BMRCL to submit a comprehensive report before finalizing any decision. This move was seen as a victory for commuters, ensuring transparency in fare adjustments.
Now, with the new fare structure officially in place, daily metro users must adapt to increased travel costs. Metro authorities maintain that the pricing revision supports service improvements and long-term operational sustainability.
