BEML to Build New Rolling Stock Plant for $216 Million

BEML will invest $216 million to build a modern facility in Madhya Pradesh to expand its production of metro and high-speed rolling stock. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

BEML Expands Presence in the Transport Sector

The manufacturing site will be located in the village of Umaria, Raisen district. The state government allocated 60 hectares of land for the project.

Initially, the plant will produce metro cars, but it will later expand to high-speed train manufacturing.

BEML remains one of India’s leading rolling stock manufacturers. In 2023, the company unveiled the first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train.

Later that year, BEML secured a $104 million contract from Integral Coach Factory to produce and commission two high-speed trains.

BEML Strengthens Its Position Across Multiple Industries

Last year, the company also signed a deal to supply 210 metro cars to the Chennai Metro.

This reflects BEML’s growing portfolio of rail projects nationwide.

Beyond transportation, BEML is involved in defense and aerospace programs.

It also manufactures construction and mining equipment, ranking second in Asia for heavy earthmoving machinery production.

To increase capacity, the company acquired a 40-hectare site in Janjgir-Champa district, Chhattisgarh.

This move highlights BEML’s strategic focus on boosting India’s industrial capabilities.
