Technical features of ES3000

The engines are designed to haul 3,000-tonne train weights at 10 km/h speeds. The continuous traction effort at the same time totals 150 kN. The continuous usage time totals up to 24 hours and runs on a bank of lithium-ion batteries.

Contract and delivery schedule

Both sides in February reached a €6 million agreement on ten locomotives. The agreement is funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Therefore, deliveries by the end of 2026 shall be concluded, with spare parts.

History and prospects

The ES3000 type was constructed since 2005 and was upgraded several times. The most recent introduction was during InnoTrans 2024. The agreement as it currently stands, however, is the initial large bulk shipment of the type to Ukraine.

All the battery locomotives will be received by Ukrzaliznyts

The agreement provides that all ten units are to be delivered within 2026.

The ES3000 battery locos are scheduled?

They will be stationed in locomotive depots and container terminals, and there, environmental solutions and reduced costs of operation are a priority.

Who supported the locomotive supply project?

The purchase was financed with the involvement of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which accelerated the modernization process of the fleet of Ukrzaliznytsia.
