The budget for this amendment is capped at $366,357,987, with a $15 million negotiated reduction. Construction will run parallel with the manufacturing of the tunnel boring machine to avoid delays.

VTA Chief Megaproject Officer Tom Maguire remarked, “Breaking ground in February is a milestone for this transformative project.” He emphasized the coordinated effort behind every stage of construction.

Next Steps in the BARTSV Tunnel Development

The construction process for the BARTSV Tunnel divides into two main stages. Stage one includes preparatory tasks like utility relocations, early design, and demolition. Innovative methods ensure cost efficiency and timeline adherence.

Stage two focuses on the tunnel itself, including portals, shafts, underground platforms, and trackwork. A final decision on this phase’s execution will be revealed by 2025, ensuring stakeholder transparency.

At Santa Clara Station, crews completed critical work such as drainage systems, fencing, and utility relocations. Future efforts include noise mitigation for nearby communities, a tunnel liner factory, and a storage facility for operations.

Looking ahead, the BARTSV Tunnel project promises to improve regional connectivity and economic opportunities, delivering on its vision for Santa Clara County.
