Barrie line GO train cancellations will affect riders during two busy Toronto event weekends, so passengers are being advised to check their options before heading out. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Metrolinx, through its GO Transit Barrie construction notice, said GO buses will replace Barrie line train service at all stations except Downsview Park GO and Union Station this weekend and again next weekend. The agency linked the closures to major track upgrades.

According to Metrolinx, the closures are needed for essential improvements intended to support faster and more frequent GO service through the GO Expansion program.

The work falls during a busy stretch for Toronto events. Bruno Mars is scheduled to perform at Downsview Park on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, next Saturday and next Sunday.

The final date was moved from this Saturday because of rain. Meanwhile, as CTV News reported, the Toronto Blue Jays are continuing their home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates this weekend.

Passengers and fans are being urged to plan ahead.

GO buses replace Barrie line train service

Metrolinx said it understands that closures and service changes can disrupt travel. At the same time, the agency noted that weekend service disruptions are scheduled months in advance, giving crews time to carry out work needed to improve and maintain the transit system.

The agency said the closures provide continuous access to the corridor. That access allows crews to complete major construction safely when the work cannot be finished overnight.

During the Barrie line GO train cancellations, replacement GO buses will operate between Allandale Waterfront GO and the Highway 407 bus terminal. Metrolinx also confirmed that GO Transit service will not be available at Downsview Park or Union Station. The temporary bus schedule may differ from the regular train timetable.

GO Transit service changes for Downsview Park

Customers travelling southbound from the Highway 407 bus terminal to Downsview Park are being advised to take TTC Line 1 south to Downsview Park Station.

Metrolinx said it is working to keep customers informed, provide alternatives where possible, and complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.
