Specialists will strengthen the tracks, as their current axle load capacity is only 17.5 tons. However, the new Mireo Plus B trains require 22.5 tons, making modernization essential.

Charging stations for train batteries will be installed at Skjern and Holstebro stations. This will ensure uninterrupted train operation along the newly upgraded route.

Additionally, the project includes the reconstruction of 16 railway crossings and essential infrastructure repairs. The plan covers passenger platforms, switch replacements, and drainage systems.

Two railway bridges will also undergo reconstruction, as they play a crucial role in ensuring traffic safety. Track layout improvements will be made at four intermediate stations along the route.

The work is scheduled for completion by mid-summer 2025, after which full operations will commence. During the reconstruction period, passengers will be transported by replacement buses.

The two-car Mireo Plus B trains can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h and travel 80 km on battery power. Their batteries charge at station tracks with an overhead power supply or while running on electrified sections.

Charging stations will be placed at key stations along the route to support the stable operation of new trains. This will allow Mireo Plus B trains to run on battery power without relying on constant electrification.

This innovative charging approach will improve railway efficiency and reduce harmful emissions. It makes the route more eco-friendly and convenient for passengers.

Banedanmark to upgrade infrastructure and bridges along the route

As part of the project, bridge structures will be improved, and track layouts at several stations will be modernized. This will enhance travel safety and significantly increase the route’s capacity.

Additionally, specialists will replace nine railway switches and renovate platforms. These upgrades will improve passenger boarding convenience and speed up train servicing at stops.
