Current trials and technology development at AŽD Praha

Trials on the Kopidlo – Dolní Bousov line continue to confirm the stable performance of the GoA3-level train, which has run more than 3,000 kilometres from April to early October 2025 and has responded correctly to animals and a road vehicle that ignored a signal at a level crossing, as also reported by RailTech.

The company is simultaneously developing several technological solutions, including an intelligent video surveillance system for level crossings that sends information about the presence of cars or pedestrians to the train, and is upgrading the ATO system in line with the latest specifications of the R2DATO project.

This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

AŽD Praha is preparing further joint tests of ATO components with project partners, because it needs to verify operational compatibility. This approach helps assess how automated systems behave under different conditions and strengthens the practical value of the driverless operation project.

Remote control and strategic plans of AŽD Praha

The trials use a consist made up of the EDITA laboratory motor coach and a trailing coach for passengers, which currently operates at speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour, while its technical configuration allows the maximum speed to be increased to 80 kilometres per hour if required.

The company is developing elements of remote control: staff use a workstation in the laboratory coach or a tablet, and are also considering control from a competence centre at Detenice station or from the head office, which expands monitoring capabilities, as AŽD Praha additionally explains in its press release AŽD autonomous trains depart on Czech railways.

AŽD Praha plans to introduce fully driverless train operation on the Čížkovice – Most section by 2030, while the current trials on the Kopidlo – Dolní Bousov line help refine the behavioural parameters of automated systems under real-world conditions.
