09.05.2025
The ATL Plane Train is entering a new phase of modernization as Hartsfield-Jackson Airport adds 14 Innovia 300R vehicles by March 2026, expanding the automated system’s capacity and efficiency. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Since its launch in 1980 with 17 vehicles, the ATL Plane Train has grown into a vital part of airport operations. The current fleet includes 59 units, and the upcoming addition will raise that number to 73.

Airport officials say the new trains are designed for improved comfort, energy efficiency, and technological flexibility. They also support driverless operation with manual override, offering more operational control and safety.
With this upgrade, transport capacity will grow from 10,000 to 12,000 passengers per hour per direction. Moreover, the average wait time between trains will decrease from 108 to 90 seconds.
ATL Plane Train Adds Capacity and Cuts Passenger Wait Times
This transition marks a major improvement in passenger service. Faster intervals and more vehicles mean shorter waits and better movement through the terminals.
According to Ana Maria Taroco, ATL’s assistant general manager for planning and development, the new fleet reflects the airport’s commitment to exceeding passenger expectations and reducing environmental impact.
Innovia 300R Replaces Aging Fleet on ATL Plane Train System
Over the next few years, the airport will retire its aging Innovia CX100 fleet. The 300R units will fully replace them, streamlining maintenance and modernizing operations.
Alstom, which has supported ATL’s people mover system for four decades, views this upgrade as essential to the airport’s long-term growth. The company aims to ensure smooth, efficient connections for millions of travelers.
With these changes, ATL’s people mover system takes a clear step toward the future—offering a smoother, faster, and more sustainable travel experience for all airport passengers.
