Eighteen chambers of commerce in Arizona are in support of the proposed Phoenix logistics project, which is valued at $3.2 billion and was designed by BNSF Railway to improve freight and logistics in the area.

On October 21st, there was a meeting conducted by the Northwest Valley Chamber of Commerce to go through the details with local chambers, transportation professionals, and Maricopa County Supervisor Debbie Lesko. The businessmen presented an open letter to Lesko with signatures of support from 15 Chambers of Commerce.

Earlier, on October 7, the Surprise City Council has voted unanimously in opposition to the project on concerns related to the affecting of city infrastructure and public safety services.

Plans of BNSF on the Phoenix Logistics Park

At the meeting on October 21, there were updates on the economic benefits and working with state and local transportation departments and the city of Surprise to find solutions to traffic problems.

Additionally, there was confirmation from BNSF of major investments in neighboring highway projects, announced in a press release by the Northwest Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Lena Kent, general director of public relations for BNSF, explained that if approved, it would be the “first of its kind in Arizona” so far as intermodal terminals go:

”The project would include the construction of an intermodal terminal that would be served by our railroad, warehousing, and associated intermodal equipment and physical infrastructure to facilitate the reduction of truck traffic and lower freight costs.”
