Previously, both parties agreed on leasing U20C locomotives needed for transporting copper ore and other freight within the DRC. At the Angolanborder, these locomotives are replaced before the trains continue toward Lobito Port. However, due to infrastructure constraints, long trains cannot move freely, necessitating the use of shunting locomotives.
Railway Modernization in Angola
The use of G18U shunting locomotives will improve the efficiency of mainline trains operating along this route. Traxtion will also handle the maintenance of the leased locomotives and train local specialists to operate them.
The first locomotive has already arrived in Angola, while the second is undergoing final preparations before shipment. Now, the company’s railway rolling stock is in operation in nine African countries.
