Amtrak Crash Leads to Road Closures
The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office said South Beaver Creek Road, Pactolus Lake Road, and Highway 72 closed following the crash. Crews reopened Highway 72 later in the morning, but the two smaller roads remained blocked.
Deputies cited the truck driver for failing to stop at the railroad crossing. Investigators continue to review the circumstances that led to the crash, while Amtrak works closely with local authorities during the inquiry.
Amtrak Emphasizes Rail Safety Concerns
Although train service resumed without major delays, the incident highlights ongoing rail safety concerns. Transportation officials urge drivers to remain vigilant at railroad crossings because ignoring signals can result in severe accidents.
Authorities advised drivers to use alternate routes until cleanup ends. Further updates are expected as investigators complete their work on the scene.
