On Friday, a train was stranded near Hudson due to a technical problem. Travelers were transferred to another train after waiting for nearly two hours, but frustrations continued to build throughout the weekend.

Amtrak also confirmed that fallen trees had blocked portions of the track. Crews removed approximately 20 trees, but delays had already disrupted several scheduled trips.

One Thursday train that left Penn Station around 3 p.m. arrived at Albany-Rensselaer after 10 p.m. That ride, normally two and a half hours, lasted seven full hours, leaving passengers stuck and exhausted.

Amtrak Faces Pressure Amid Infrastructure Issues

Amtrak acknowledged the growing demand and ongoing infrastructure problems affecting its Northeast routes. The company has faced mounting criticism for repeated breakdowns and scheduling issues.

Because of summer travel peaks, many expect improved reliability and better contingency measures. However, the repeated failures underscore the vulnerability of aging equipment and track systems.

Amtrak Plans Service Upgrades to Restore Confidence

Despite recent failures, Amtrak stated it is investing in modernizing its fleet and infrastructure. It promised stronger communication and better emergency response in future incidents.

The company also said it is enhancing track maintenance efforts to avoid further disruptions. Still, many riders remain skeptical, especially during high-demand travel seasons.

Passengers are encouraged to monitor train updates closely and prepare for possible changes when traveling on busy corridors.

For now, Amtrak service reliability between Albany and New York City remains unpredictable, though the carrier insists improvements are underway.
