Amsted Rail leaves Russia
01.04.2022
Amsted Rail, an American manufacturer of spare parts for freight cars, announced its withdrawal from the Russian market. This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the company’s website.
“Following the situation in Ukraine, Amsted Rail has taken steps to finish production at our joint bearing plant in Saratov, Russia. Amsted Rail has also notified our employees of the closure of our office in Moscow, Russia.”
As specified in the company, these steps have been taken for several weeks. In addition, they said that the American manufacturer has no business in Belarus.
The joint venture EPK-Brenko Bearing Company LLC in Saratov has been operating since 2009. There, in particular, tapered cassette bearings TBU were manufactured, which provide a large axial load and a turnaround time of up to 800 thousand km, and also do not require maintenance during an 8-year warranty period.
Amsted Rail is one of the leaders in the US market for rolling stock components, in particular solid wheels. In general, the company has production in more than 10 countries of the world and employs more than 10 thousand employees.
Earlier, two more powerful bearing manufacturers, Timken and SKF, also announced their exit from the market of the aggressor country.
Sanctions from American and European companies are caused by the participation of Russian business in the use of freight cars for the supply of weapons for the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine.
