Alstom and regional investments in France

Four French regions — Auvergne–Rhône–Alpes, Bourgogne–Franche–Comté, Grand Est and Occitanie — signed a contract for the supply of 12 Regiolis H2 trains. The project is valued at €231 million, making it the largest investment program in sustainable transport in the country.

The company uses the Coradia Polyvalent platform, which, after the Bombardier acquisition, came under the control of Spanish manufacturer CAF. Although the rights changed ownership, development and production were distributed across 14 Alstom sites, while final assembly takes place at the Reichshoffen plant.

Alstom focuses on hybrid technologies

The new train has a range of 600 km, which is slightly less than the Coradia Stream H at 660 km and significantly lower than the Coradia iLint at 800 km. However, its hybrid system offers an additional advantage: the ability to run on catenary power when available. Therefore, the project is positioned as a versatile solution for routes with mixed infrastructure.

Alstom continues to strengthen its leadership in sustainable mobility. The company emphasizes that the development of hydrogen trains will help reduce emissions and accelerate Europe’s transition to a carbon-free economy. Investments in such projects also reinforce brand trust and strengthen its authority in the global transport industry.

Thus, the certification of Regiolis H2 highlights Alstom’s long-term strategy: the company aims not only at commercial success but also at shaping the future of European rail transport.
