Alstom has introduced Taiwan’s first autonomous metro train, designed for Taipei’s metropolitan rail lines. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The four-car Metropolis train, built from stainless steel, can carry up to 700 passengers, including 108 seated. Equipped with the high-level GoA4 automation system, this autonomous metro train ensures complete autonomy and safety.

Under contracts signed between 2018 and 2020, Alstom committed to delivering 35 similar trains for Taipei’s Line 7. In addition to the trains, Alstom will provide the Urbalis 400 signaling system and platform doors, enhancing safety and efficiency for Taipei’s metro. These autonomous metro trains are scheduled for operation in 2027, when the first segment of the new line opens. Alstom is also fulfilling a contract to supply 29 Metropolis trains for Taipei’s circular line, which will increase passenger comfort and capacity.

The production process is distributed across multiple facilities: final assembly occurs at the Taubate plant in Brazil, while bogies are manufactured in Le Creusot, France. Urbalis 400 systems are produced at plants in Saint-Ouen, France, and Bangalore, India, ensuring a high level of quality and reliability.
