The service will carry 1,076 passengers and can seat 618 over eight carriages and will run through Tuscany, Lazio, and Umbria. Increasing capacity is a move to tackle growing demand to make services reliable and frequent.

Gianpiero Strisciuglio, Trenitalia’s CEO, remarked: “The $7 billion program will refresh by 2027 80% of the regional network, offering with new trains, across Italy, modern, sustainable and reliable transport.” His words confirm the extent of investment and long-term thinking.

Alstom advances sustainable growth and local industry

The Coradia Stream was developed and assembled at Savigliano, Sesto San Giovanni, and Bologna Italian plants of Alstom. The project reinforces the Italian industrial foundation, since it uses local suppliers and qualified technicians.

Michele Viale, Managing Director of Alstom Italy, further said: “This train is the best of Italian engineering and our effort to make mobility sustainable. We proudly contribute to supporting jobs and suppliers of the national railway system.”

Aside from production, the locomotive is equipped with new technology. The locomotive is equipped with ERTMS signaling, predictive maintenance using Ethernet TCMS, and fire detection to improve safety. Thus, operators enjoy reliability and short maintenance times.

Sustainability is key. Over 96% of materials can be recycled and energy-efficient technologies reduce usage by as much as 35% relative to older fleets. Accessibility is also key with flat-floor boarding ramps and 16 bike spaces, including e-bikes.

The comfort of the passenger has not been skipped. Passengers enjoy next-generation climate control, isolation of the car’s interior, and continent-sized seating that works well for short trips and longer trips. Thanks to this, the Coradia Stream raises the bar on regional service in Italy.
