The £2 million ($2.55 million) project brings technology, sustainability, and community development all under one roof.

The installation of the HVAC facility helps the engineers to inspect, rebuild, and test climate control units necessary for trains to be comfortable and energy efficient. They are currently processing 35 units per week compared to 16 before the installation, with the target to be 50 early next year.
The installation of the HVAC facility has ensured that Alstom has created access to 70 highly skilled jobs, with another 40 to be created.
The future-proofing of Crewe Works is made possible by the crucial investment made by Alstom, according to Steve Harvey, the Services Director for the UK and Ireland.
“The investment in the project combines heritage with innovation, which will contribute towards creating sustainable transport for the future,” Steve Harvey said.

Apart from the HVAC installation, another renovation project undertaken by the company is the renovation of the 20,000 sq ft office space with the help of Woodhouse, their partner.
This renovated office space blends the industrial heritage of the building with innovative work areas designed to promote cooperation and communication between employees. The design involves the exposure of steel structures with the addition of a mezzanine featuring new meeting rooms with open-plan working areas.
The opening was attended by community leaders, businessmen, and executives from the company, including Mark Derbyshire, General Manager of Crewe Works, who appreciated the hard work that went into creating the efficient, skilful, and connected facility.
The Crewe Works, operational since 1843, continues to play an important role in railway engineering in the UK to date, currently functioning as the Alstom Centre of Excellence for the overhaul of bogie, wheel, and traction motors in the country. The train depot will also manufacture the bogies for the HS2 trains, the first time components will be manufactured in the UK in nearly two decades.
With this project, the commitment of Alstom towards sustainable growth, technology, and employment in the regional areas is assured, and Crewe will help shape the future railroad scenario for the UK.
