Alstom to Deliver 45 New Trams to Berlin Under BVG Contract

Berlin’s transport operator BVG has ordered 45 new Urbanliner Flexity trams from Alstom, presented at InnoTrans 2024. These modern 50.9-meter-long trams will help improve the city’s transport infrastructure. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alstom Modernizes Berlin’s Transport System
Each new tram will offer increased capacity, improved technical features, and a high level of comfort. This contract is part of a framework agreement signed in 2020, which includes the acquisition of up to 117 units.

Initially, the contract was signed with Bombardier Transportation for €571 million, but after the company merged with Alstom in 2021, all obligations were transferred to the new owner. Now, the manufacturer continues the project, delivering state-of-the-art models.

The company plans to deliver the first trams in the coming years, gradually renewing the city’s fleet. The new trams will help increase transport frequency and make journeys more comfortable.
