Alstom has secured a major contract to deliver 35 electric Coradia Stream interregional trains to Bulgaria and provide 15 years of maintenance services, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Alstom, a global leader in sustainable transport, signed the €720 million agreement through the BULEMU consortium, with €600 million attributed to its share. Together with Bulgarian partner RVP Invest, Alstom will also establish a dedicated maintenance facility.

This landmark project introduces the first Alstom passenger trains to Bulgaria and marks the country’s first acquisition of electric interregional trains in two decades. The new trains will support journey times between four and five hours.

Gian Luca Erbacci, President of Alstom Europe, emphasized that these trains will modernize Bulgaria’s transport system and help meet the country’s green mobility goals. Grozdan Karadjov, Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister, also welcomed the project’s contribution to a more regular, comfortable, and eco-friendly rail service.

Alstom Expands Its Coradia Stream Presence in Europe

Developed for the European market, Coradia Stream trains incorporate the advanced ERTMS Level 2 system and comply with European standards and interoperability specifications. Designed for maximum speed of 160 km/h, the trains ensure efficiency and safety.

Each six-car train will offer over 320 seats with 100% low-floor accessibility. Features include spacious luggage areas, dynamic visual and audio information systems, and modern device-charging sockets for passenger convenience.

Alstom’s Maintenance Commitment Supports Bulgarian Railways

Alstom will maintain the fleet for 15 years through preventive care, repairs, and emergency interventions, ensuring reliable performance. The FlexCare portfolio will optimize lifecycle management and maximize train availability.

Additionally, Alstom continues modernizing Bulgarian railway infrastructure and providing maintenance for the national operator BDZ, reinforcing its long-term role in enhancing Bulgaria’s transport network.

Across Europe, Alstom’s Coradia series, including emission-free battery and hydrogen models, has proven reliability with over 4,000 regional trains sold globally. Countries like Denmark, Germany, and Spain already benefit from Coradia’s operational excellence.
