Rolling Stock and Components business across the U.S. and Canada

Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, operates a substantial Rolling Stock and Components (RSC) business in North America. The RSC network produces and maintains a wide range of rail vehicles — from high-speed trains and commuter rail fleets to metros and light rail vehicles — serving leading North American transit agencies.

This Rolling Stock and Components business is central to the Alstom Rolling Stock North America strategy and underpins long-term partnerships with operators across the continent.

To date, Alstom has delivered more than 15,000 new or renovated vehicles to domestic rail agencies in the United States and Canada. Its customer base includes agencies serving New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Atlanta and New Jersey, as well as the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, Edmonton and Vancouver. Among these deliveries are the NextGen Acela high-speed trains made in America: Alstom has delivered the NextGen Acela, the first high-speed trains ever made in America, a project that industry media such as Railway Supply have followed closely.

In the United States, Alstom is a leading provider of rolling stock and rail services, supported by advanced rail manufacturing sites in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, and in Hornell and Plattsburgh, New York. Together, these Alstom rail manufacturing sites in US and Canada form an integrated industrial base for design, engineering, production and maintenance of rolling stock for American operators.

In Canada, Alstom is the country’s only train manufacturer. The company operates engineering and prototyping centres in St-Bruno, Quebec, along with manufacturing sites in La Pocatière, Quebec, and in Brampton, Kingston and Thunder Bay, Ontario. Taken together, these locations reinforce the Alstom Rolling Stock and Components business and support a broad fleet of trains and transit vehicles for Canadian agencies.

Sustainable mobility and the local rail supply chain

Across both the United States and Canada, Alstom’s Rolling Stock and Components activities reflect a consistent commitment to sustainable mobility and innovation in rail technology.

The company supports sustainable mobility and the local rail supply chain through significant investments in manufacturing, engineering and supply chain partnerships. Alstom works with 1,553 local suppliers in the United States and 920 in Canada, helping to support local economies while advancing modern rail solutions in North America under the leadership of the Alstom Rolling Stock VP North America.
