This project, implemented along a 250 km stretch and including 15 stations, represents a significant step in the development of the country’s railway infrastructure.

The contract for the project was signed back in 2015, and since then, the modernization has been carried out in phases, minimizing inconvenience to passengers and ensuring uninterrupted railway service.

A key element of the modernization was the introduction of the IXL SmartLock 400 GP microprocessor-based interlocking system, which significantly increased the reliability and safety of train operations.

Additionally, a centralized traffic control system was installed, providing centralized management of the entire line, enabling rapid response to any incidents and efficient train schedule planning.

An important component of the project was the creation of a modern communication network necessary for coordinating the operation of all systems and ensuring stable data exchange.

This, in turn, improved interaction between various divisions of the railway operator.

To ensure uninterrupted power supply on the line, an 11 kV substation was installed.

The new SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system allows for real-time monitoring and management of energy systems, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operating costs.

The results of the modernization are impressive: the maximum permissible train speed has increased to 160 km/h, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing the appeal of rail transport for passengers.

The daily passenger flow on the line can now reach 60,000 people, an important factor for regional economic development and improving transportation accessibility for local residents.

The completion of this project is a significant achievement not only for Alstom but also for Egypt’s entire railway sector.

Modernizing railway infrastructure contributes to the country’s sustainable development, improving citizens’ quality of life, and creating new business opportunities.

Thus, the Beni Suef – Assiut railway line modernization project demonstrates how modern technologies and engineering solutions can significantly improve the transportation system, making it safer, more efficient, and more convenient for passengers.

This serves as further confirmation of Alstom’s high level of expertise and technological leadership in railway automation and infrastructure solutions.
