Alstom, a French manufacturer of rolling stock, has begun production of Metropolis trains for the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) at its factory in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh state, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Under the contract signed between DMRC and Alstom in 2022, 52 six-car trains with a total value of 312 million euros are planned to be manufactured.

These trains will operate on three different metro lines: Pink, Purple, and Gold, providing comfortable and efficient transportation for the residents of the Indian capital.
The operational speed of the new trains is 85 km/h, with each car measuring 25 meters in length, accommodating up to 300 passengers.
This move is part of Alstom’s development strategy in India, where they already have experience in manufacturing rolling stock for other cities such as Chennai, Kochi, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
The Alstom factory in Sri City started its operations back in 2012 and currently has a production capacity of 480 cars per year.
Additionally, the company exports its products to other cities such as Sydney and Montreal.
A significant milestone in the company’s development in the Indian market was the contract with CMRL to supply 26 three-car metro trains worth nearly 8 billion rupees.
This contract underscores the confidence of customers in the quality of Alstom’s products and their ability to undertake major projects in the country.
