Alstom plans to implement a project amounting to $72.2 million
15.11.2023
Alstom, the French locomotive manufacturer, is set to revolutionize Dallas Fort Worth Airport’s (DFW) Skylink system with a $72.2m modernization and replacement program, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The Skylink, an Innovia automated people mover (APM) crucial for passenger and employee transportation within the airport, operates 24/7, boasting a maximum ride time of nine minutes.
This initiative follows Alstom’s 2022 ten-year contract for maintaining 64 Innovia APM locomotives.
The company is not only tasked with Skylink duties but also oversees the 8km guideway, complete with heating systems, power distribution, and automatic train control equipment.
Emphasizing the impact on customer experiences, Alstom Americas president and CEO Michael Keroullé stated, “We are committed to this partnership. This new contract will allow us to further enhance the world-class experience people have come to expect from Skylink.”
Alstom’s Innovia APM cars, known for their flexible operability, can function underground, at ground level, or on elevated platforms.
The Skylink service seamlessly connects all five terminals at DFW Airport, offering passengers a full leisure experience with easy access to shops and restaurants.
This venture extends Alstom’s APM solution expertise, rooted in over 50 years of experience. Notably, the company pioneered the world’s first driverless APM system in 1971 at Tampa
International Airport and has since delivered over 30 APM systems globally, solidifying its position as an industry leader in automated people-moving technology.
