Alstom has launched the construction of a new service center in Astana as part of an investment agreement signed with the government of Kazakhstan in 2023. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The project is expected to create around 400 jobs, strengthening the region’s industrial base and enhancing maintenance capacity for railway equipment.

The company has been expanding its manufacturing operations in Kazakhstan for over a decade. Since 2012, it has been producing Prima T8 “KZ8A” and Prima M4 “KZ4AT” locomotives for national operator KTZ at the EKZ plant in Astana.

Alstom Expands Technical Presence in Kazakhstan

In 2017, Alstom opened its first service center in Astana to maintain delivered locomotives. The new facility will build on that foundation and feature advanced diagnostic and repair systems.

This center will accelerate maintenance processes and improve service quality. It will also reduce equipment downtime and lower maintenance costs.

Alstom Sees Kazakhstan as a Regional Hub

According to Jérôme Boyet, Managing Director for Western and Central Asia, Kazakhstan serves as a strategic base for Alstom. From here, the company oversees operations across neighboring countries, including Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

The initiative supports Kazakhstan’s industrialization strategy and helps attract foreign investment while creating skilled job opportunities.

The new service center will further strengthen the partnership between Kazakhstan and the global rail equipment leader, ensuring localized support and long-term sector development.
