Alstom Celebrates Two Centuries of Railway Innovation

Rail industry professionals attended a preview event at Alstom’s Derby site on January 30. This gathering was part of Railway 200, commemorating two centuries of modern railway advancements.

Alstom’s Derby Litchurch Lane plant will welcome visitors from August 1-3 for an exclusive event. Families can explore historic locomotives, cutting-edge trains, and interactive displays throughout the site.

Branded as the Greatest Gathering, the showcase will include various British railway vehicles. Attendees will see steam locomotives, electric multiple units, and modern passenger trains up close.

During the preview event, several featured trains were unveiled to an enthusiastic audience. Visitors also had the chance to ride Alstom’s latest class 701 Arterio EMU.

This next-generation electric train is entering service on South West Trains’ London routes. The event highlighted Alstom’s dedication to railway innovation and technological advancement.

Alstom Showcases Modern and Historic Railway Vehicles

Avanti West Coast’s class 390 Pendolino was officially named Railway 200 at the event. AWC’s Andy Mellors and Alstom Europe’s Gian Luca Erbacci led the unveiling ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Erbacci emphasized the global significance of railway development. He highlighted Alstom’s contributions to international projects, including Cairo’s monorail system.

Alstom’s Derby facility also produces class 345 trains for London’s Elizabeth Line expansion. The company continues shaping the future of transportation while honoring railway history.
