These new trains will serve the Kenitra–Marrakesh line, which spans a distance of 375 km.

Alstom will deliver twelve high-speed trains with an option for six additional units. The contract was signed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Morocco to discuss economic cooperation. Although the contract’s value remains undisclosed, it is part of a broader agreement worth over €10 billion.
Contract to Supply High-Speed Trains as a Step Toward 2030 World Cup Goals
ONCF had previously considered proposals from other manufacturers, including Hyundai Rotem, but chose Alstom for better value. ONCF’s Director-General, Mohamed Rabie Khlie, emphasized that Alstom’s offer stood out in terms of both price and quality.
Currently, Morocco operates twelve double-decker Alstom TGV trains introduced in 2018, capable of reaching speeds up to 320 km/h. These trains play a critical role in Morocco’s transportation infrastructure, and the new order will help expand the country’s railway network.
The acquisition of 18 new trains supports Morocco’s extensive project to modernize and grow its railway network for the 2030 World Cup. Alstom is scheduled to start delivering high-speed trains from 2027, with all deliveries completed by 2030, ensuring the transportation network’s readiness.
Establishing a Maintenance Base to Supply High-Speed Trains in Morocco
Alongside the supply of high-speed trains, Alstom and ONCF have agreed to establish a maintenance base in Morocco. This partnership will foster technology transfer and local manufacturing, targeting a localization rate between 60% and 80%, positively impacting Morocco’s economy and creating new job opportunities.
This cooperation between France and Morocco highlights both countries’ commitment to strengthening economic ties and developing transportation infrastructure. Morocco gains an opportunity to enhance its transportation network, while Alstom expands its presence in Africa’s high-speed rail sector.
